Neck and Shoulder Discomfort

Even with similar neck and shoulder discomfort, contributing factors such as movement habits, muscle tension, work and sleep vary from person to person. We assess your overall condition, rather than focusing only on your neck and shoulders.

Are any of these concerns affecting you?

  • Your neck or shoulders feel heavy after desk work
  • It is difficult to turn your head from side to side
  • It is difficult to move your neck when you wake up
  • You feel tightness from your shoulders through your back
  • A heavy feeling in your head or tired eyes accompanies neck and shoulder discomfort

How we assess your body

We check the following, rather than choosing an approach from the name of a neck or shoulder symptom alone.

  • Movement of the neck, shoulders, shoulder blades and back: We check which movements bother you and whether movement elsewhere may be contributing to strain.
  • Posture and how you use your body at work: We identify the situations in which you tend to feel strain.
  • Muscle tension in the neck, shoulders and back, and responses to touch: These help us understand your current condition.
  • Sleep, fatigue, and the condition of your head, eyes and arms: We check for changes beyond the neck and shoulders and for anything that should be assessed by a medical institution first.

About Treatments

Acupuncture and moxibustion:We adjust the intensity and method while checking how your skin and muscles respond to acupuncture.

Manual therapy:When needed, we use hands-on muscle techniques, check joint movement and incorporate stretching.

Combined care:We choose the methods needed based on your condition, preferences and responses during the session.

We also check movement and your body's responses after care, and revise the approach when needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I consult you if I have numbness in my arm?

Yes. We ask how the numbness has developed and assess areas beyond the neck and shoulders. If you develop sudden paralysis or weakness, please seek medical care first.

Can I also discuss a heavy feeling in my head or tired eyes along with neck and shoulder discomfort?

Yes. We assess your head and eyes as well, rather than focusing only on your neck and shoulders.

Will you use acupuncture if moving my neck hurts?

We do not decide to use acupuncture based on a symptom name alone. We choose an approach after checking what happens when you move, your preferences and your body's responses.
